, 2011 - Northwestern at Millennium Park  - Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble - Mark your Calendar Now!

You are invited to a Concert on Sunday May 29 at the Millennium Park,
the most sophisticated outdoor concert venue in the country! !   This will be a great opportunity to listening to great music, mingling with fellow MBAs and Northwestern Alumni.   Bring your blanket and some finger food/drinks for you and/or to share with the group.  Let's catch up with our old classmates and make new friends.  It will be an opportunity for  connections!!  Feel free to forward this message to all your Kellogg/TopGrad friends, and tell them to meet you there.  Spread the word.  Your TopGrad friends will learn about this event, if you forward this message to them--Friends invite FriendsIt will be fun!


PROGRAM DETAILS: A Memorial Day weekend band concert at Chicago’s Millennium Park will feature the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble conducted by Mallory Thompson, live commentary by 98.7 WFMT-FM and University of Michigan Marching Band announcer Carl Grapentine, and guest trumpet soloist Colin Oldberg. The event is free and open to the public.

Presented by the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music, the 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29 program marks the 6th year of Northwestern ensemble performances at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion, at 201 E. Randolph St., between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.

Music:
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble emphasizes major arrangements and original works for band. The group’s May 29 program includes Donald Hunsberger’s arrangement of Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture” and Mallory Thompson’s arrangement of the Prelude to Act III, Dance, and Finale from Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger.” Concerto for Trumpet by Alexander Arutunian; Hunsberger’s arrangement of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor; and Keith Wilson’s transcription of Hindemith’s “Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber” also will be performed.  Thompson, who is the Bienen School’s director of bands and coordinator of the conducting program, also is Charles Deering McCormick Professor of Teaching Excellence.  Grapentine joined 98.7 WFMT-FM in 1986 and is longtime host of the station’s “Morning Program.”  Oldberg, a Bienen School alumnus, is principal trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.  Oldberg is a member of the Axiom Brass Quintet, winner of the 2008 International Chamber Brass competition.

TIME6:00 p.m. meeting at the Great Lawn, NorthEast corner area, close to the East wall.  Concert starts at 6:30 p.m. and we will stay there until 8:30 PM, so come at any time you can.     

LOCATIONJay Pritzker Pavilion - Millennium Park , the most sophisticated outdoor concert venue in the country!  Randolph Street between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive -  Our group will be at the NorthEast Corner of the Great Lawn with TopGrad MBA signs. 

PARKING
:
  Parking is available in the Millennium Park Garage (entrances northbound on Columbus at Monroe, southbound at Randolph) and the East Monroe Garage (enter northbound on Columbus just north of Monroe). The fee for these two garages is around $15-$20, if less than 8 hours  (call 312 742-7644).

HOW MUCH: Free!  Bring your blanket and some finger food/drinks for you and/or to share with the group. You can also buy food/drinks around the park area.
